The title of Seigneur de la Griffonnière did not appear until the 16th century. The estate was sold to the rectors of the hospital on July 2, 1720 by Gaspard De Branges. The MOTTES CASTRALES known as "POYPES", numerous in the Ain department and particularly in Dombes, arouse curiosity. They have been attributed eccentric functions: tombs, fairy dwellings, Gallic places of worship... Today, thanks to archaeological research, we can affirm that "poypes" were medieval castles built throughout Europe
between the 10th and 13th centuries.

The poype de la Griffonnière, which you can still see today, has a legend about a "bronze horse" buried beneath the ruins of the local castle.
