Description
The charm of Meillonnas is written in stone, half-timbered walls and water! A beautiful setting to tell you about a rich history and reveal a few nuggets. Guided tour by the RECAM association. Reservations required.
This ancient fortified village is a must-see if you like to decipher the traces of history. Solid stone houses stand side by side with half-timbered buildings; the water carries a whole past: mills, potters' activity that became a famous earthenware factory (the old factory is located near the castle). Here and there, the buildings reveal the remains of the ramparts. The church of St Oyen houses a treasure trove of magnificently preserved 14th-century frescoes. It was this charming village that writer Roger Vailland (Prix Goncourt 1957) chose as the setting for his inspiration. Meillonnas certainly has a lot to tell you. Reservations required.
