La Traverse, a former railway line connecting La Bresse to Revermont, offers a 44km linear cycling route that is 100% safe, marked by a red-orange path. Ideal for a relaxing and peaceful family cycling holiday!
La Traverse, a cycle route with a smooth surface, closed to motorized vehicles, guarantees a comfortable and safe ride for cyclists. Ideal for a family outing, it allows you to discover varied landscapes including mills, Bresse farms, ponds, and rivers.
Starting from the Saint-Trivier-de-Courtes welcome area, the northern starting point for joining the greenway, you can park your car there. Throughout your journey, you will cycle through the Bresse bocage countryside, guided by the red-orange markings on the ground. Don't miss the Ferme de la Forêt in Courtes, 3 km from the Saint-Trivier-de-Courtes starting area, a traditional Bresse farm dating from the late 16th century and listed as a Historical Monument. Day 1: Head towards Mantenay-Montlin, a village in the Bresse region where you can see the statue of a giant rooster, a nod to Bresse poultry, a unique AOC (Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée) and a jewel of Bresse gastronomy. Continue towards Jayat via Saint-Julien/Reyssouze. We invite you to take a short break at the Moulin de La Bresse - Vernessin to discover authentic virgin olive oils and the production of surprising vinegars using Italian techniques. About 1 km further on, you will arrive in Montrevel-en-Bresse, renowned for its "La Plaine Tonique" leisure park where you can stay overnight... or for several days if you want to enjoy its many water sports activities!
Day 2: Head towards Bourg-en-Bresse! The Traverse will take you to the Bouvent Leisure Park (entrance fee from mid-May to the end of August), a refreshing stop with water sports and relaxation areas where you can have a picnic. On your route, you'll pass near the famous Royal Monastery of Brou, which recounts the love story of Margaret of Austria and Philibert the Fair. Then, return to your accommodation, La Plaine Tonique, for the night.
Day 3: Your stay comes to an end. You'll head back to your starting point, Saint-Trivier-de-Courtes. A Bresse cycling getaway with your family that you'll remember for a long time!
